Holistic Yoga offers a combination of stretching, breathing and meditation exercises designed to balance the energy systems of your body, mind and spirit. Holistic Yoga is brain-based and therefore emphasizes the brain because it is the thing that creates and controls every aspect of human life. Health, feeling and experience, physical movement, motivation and purpose- all of these are based on brain activity. All life can be improved by better use of our brains.
What do you mean by brain-based?
All mind-body practices, including other forms of yoga and meditation, have an effect on the brain. The sense of peace, release of tension, and reduction of stress that these practices offer are due to their effect on the brain. Learning about the brain is also the best way to move your practice out of the center and into your life. If you only practice yoga as physical exercise, you are not really tapping into its full potential. Approaching your practice as exercise may help you relax in the moment, but wouldn’t you like to carry peace into all areas of your life? That is why we study the brain so intensely in the deeper levels of this practice. By learning to become the master of your brain, you become the master of your life.
