What is Yoga Really All About? The Essence of Yoga is Breathing



What does “yoga” mean to you? Does it mean a certain type of commitment? Does it mean exercising in a class with other people? Does it mean doing impossible things with your body? Well, these are all part of the truth of what yoga is. Yoga does involve commitment and discipline, and it involves people learning together through movement of the body. But it is the relaxation within the discipline, the space between each personal connection and the rest between each movement that makes it all meaningful. This is the natural rhythm of breathing. The Earth breathes, our bodies breathe and we all breathe together. Breathing is the cornerstone of yoga practice and it is the element that has the greatest power to change your life.

Over the decades that Dahn Yoga has been in existence, many people have been healed just from breathing. Some people could barely move their bodies when they started, but regained strength and vitality through breathing exercises. Others with relatively healthy bodies gained emotional breakthroughs by breathing. That’s why breathing is a part of everything we do. Whether you are taking our basic yoga classes, trying out our tai chi or joining in advanced meditation, you will experience the benefits of our breathing practice.

    Initial Awakening

    The purpose of the Initial Awakening workshop is to bring our focus to the present moment through our Dahn-Jon, and to increase our awareness and to awaken our body sensitivity. One of our habits is unconscious thinking. We waste a lot of energy by thinking and worrying about the past and future. This thinking habit is non-productive, but by focusing on our Dahn-Jon we can be in the moment. Mt. Prospect Center

Tai Chi09:00-10:00Tai Chi:DahnMuDo is a non-combative, healing martial art. Its gentle moves help to properly align the spine, joints, muscles and even internal organs. DahnMuDo creates strength, power, confidence and mental clarity.
Energy Meditation10:00-11:00Energy Meditation:Meditation class develops body awareness and ability to relax, their level of concentration deepens. Our meditation accelerates this process by shifting the focus away from busy thoughts to the physical sensations of the body.
