Multiple Sclerosis and Body and Brain
Lonnie Hlusko, Littleton center, CO
In March of this year, I walked into the Littleton Body and Brain Center after searching out several other "yoga" programs in the area. From the moment I first met Lenny at the door, I knew that I had found the place for me. I had no idea what a profound difference this practice would make in my life over the last 9 months. Diagnosed with MS in 2003, I was determined that "I have MS but MS will not have me!" After years of working at a high-stress, physically- and mentally-challenging job, I was forced into "retirement" by my body and condition. MS was winning.
However, after starting Dahn Yoga, I began to see a significant difference in my strength and ability to move within just weeks, taking 3-4 classes per week. My mental attitude and cognitive skills also improved. After 9 months, I have lost 25 pounds. I can take care of my 9 month old grandson 2-3 days a week, and I also care for my 82 year old mother. I am currently working on advancing my non-profit orgainzation, Hands for Humanity, Inc. My goal has now become a life-long plan of continuing this Dahn Yoga practice, and helping others with "disabilities" take charge of their own wellness. Thanks to the Littleton Body and Brain Center, Dahn Yoga, and the kindness and compassion of Lenny and Karen.
