Mount Prospect Body & Brain

Body & Brain is a national leader in holistic health and wellness. Our classes in yoga, tai chi, meditation, detoxification, and rhythmic movement combine East Asian healing and energy philosophies. A person is considered healthy only if one has health of mind, body, and spirit—which is why our exercises, workshops, and programs focus on opening the mind and heart as well as healing the body. Our practice utilizes a 5-step energy practice to activate the brain through a deep mind-body connection. By developing your capacity to feel energy, you can quiet your mind to experience peace with the flow of life to unleash profound personal growth.

We offer a wide variety of classes which involve breathing techniques, meridian stretching, core-strengthening, and energy circulation & accumulation. All classes are geared towards whole-person care, and all ages and levels are welcome.

At Mount Prospect Body & Brain, our flexible schedule and variety of instructors provides our members with a broad range of options. We offer daytime, evening and weekend classes so you can choose the classes and schedules that work best for you. In addition to our regular weekly classes, we also offer a variety of workshops and special training classes designed to help you continue to grow your mind, body and spirit. Magdalena Szara
Magdalena Szara is a regional director of Body & Brain Yoga, a workshop trainer and an advocate for holistic health. She was born and raised in Poland and came to the United States at age 21 as a fashion designer. However, her physical and emotional health was declining. She developed arthritis in the spine and had three degenerated disks for which fusion surgery was recommended. Along with this, she suffered from severe digestive issues. In 2007, she discovered Body & Brain. Through this Korean mind/body training method, she healed herself and decided to devote her life to improving the lives of others by delivering these healing principles. Magdalena is a mother and grandmother of two.
Julia Chung
Julia was born and raised in Taiwan, came to the US in 1999 for graduate school and eventually stayed for a corporate job as a research scientist after receiving her doctorate. She was a serial learner and an overachiever; however, what came with numerous achievements was anxiety, feeling of never enough and eventually numbness. She felt like a hamster on a wheel for many years until she met this energy yoga practice. Through mindfulness, she improved her physical health, emotional well-being and found the true essence of herself. In 2014, she walked away from corporate America and joined Body & Brain as an instructor and center manager. She is passionate about sharing these ancient Eastern mindfulness training methods with children and adults for better health, happiness and peace. She believes this practice can transform the world into a better place, just as it transformed her life for the better.
Kenneth Hong
Ken was born and raised in Chicago and has been practicing Body & Brain Yoga for 10 years. He started out wanting to learn Tai-Chi as an alternative way to relieve lower back pain, pressure under both knees, and emotional heaviness. After
one year of attending classes and workshops consistently, he regained flexibility in his lower spine, strengthened his knees, and became more emotionally positive. He now teaches full-time with Body & Brain with a specialization in DahnMuDo/Qigong/Tai-Chi.
Emil Marinov
Emil was born in Bulgaria and moved here in 1988. He is a licensed Tai Chi instructor, a certified energy healer and has completed Level 4 Brain Education training. From his experience as a sales distribution manager to his experience as a medical assistant, he has always had a focus on helping others. At Body & Brain, he focuses on giving people tools to create a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. He varies his classes to support full body health through concentrated breathing and being present in the moment. He works to develop a relationship with his students so he is aware of their needs, and he always strives to make class fun.
Mary Ellen Siemens
Mary Ellen has been a yoga practitioner for over 30 years. She used to practice a more traditional style of yoga until she found Body & Brain Yoga. Here, she found relief from shoulder and neck tension which had plagued her for years and learned to experience her body more, becoming a keen observer of thoughts and habits that can be obstacles for growth. Her purpose in life is to grow, to heal herself and others, to live a life of love…and to make classes fun!
Nicki Douros
Nicki came to Body & Brain in 2005 in search of a yoga class for her children. Upon initial introduction, she decided to join herself. She quickly discovered the significant impact of her own energy on her family and friends. Since that time, she has dedicated herself to fostering and sharing positive, healing energy with others. She is a Dahn Master and a Reiki healer. As an instructor, her goal is to help others discover the positive impact they can have on the world around them by simply taking the time to focus inside.

Body & Brain Yoga (All levels) ( BBY )

Body & Brain Yoga's regular classes are great for all levels and ages! Each class has effective and dynamic components of stretching, breathing, and meditation to destress, strengthen, and relax the mind and body. You will definitely feel refreshed and energized even after just one fun session guided by our experienced instructors!


Core Strengthening ( COR )

Core Strengthening class emphasizes our inner abdominal muscles related to supporting the flexibility and strength of our organs, hips, the breathing diaphragm, and back. In this class, we combine Belly Button Healing, Intestinal (Abdominal) Exercises with Meridian Stretches and Core Energy Breathing postures to increase circulation to help strengthen our immune system and improve our gut health. This class includes deep stretching, core breathing, relaxation and meditation for chakra health and balance.

Energy Movement ( VIB )

With rhythmic energy movement, this class creates vibrations in the body to rebalance the energy of the brain. This class will include Dahn Mu (moving energy meditation), tapping, vibration, dancing, breathing, and meditation. Through rhythm and sound, you will release stress and body tension and bring your brain into a calm and meditative state. Relax your body and mind and recover your center to ground your energy. 

Meditation ( M )

This class will guide you through a deep energy meditation so that you can calm and center your mind.

Tai Chi and Ki gong ( TNK )

Tai Chi & Ki Gong combines slow, deliberate movements, meditation, and breathing exercises to help your circulation, balance, and alignment while restoring energy. This is a very low-impact exercise with amazing benefits.
