She brought you into this world, and you’re connected to her in ways that defy understanding. She’s your mom. With Mother’s Day around the corner, it’s the perfect time to think about some meaningful ways to say ‘thank you, mom’. Because we think actions speak louder than words, we’ve gathered a few unique and meaningful ways to express your love this Mother’s Day.

The Power of a Mother’s Love

An essential concept from Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi is that wellness is the result of a healthy flow of universal energy or ki. What is ki energy? Well, it’s is essentially the feeling of love and connection, and through simple techniques, we can develop our power to circulate energy and even to help others. Perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than in the natural care that many mothers give their children. Have you ever experienced the simple benefit of having someone you love rub your back when you feel unwell? Or tell you a story to help you ease your stress?

Scientists have studied the biological effects of a mother’s love by charting chemical reactions in children’s bodies. It was found that when mothers soothe their children with a hug or a kiss, their children’s hormone levels correlated with love and trust surge while hormone levels correlated with stress plummet. A recent study showed that even the sound of a mother’s voice can trigger a cascade of stress-relieving chemicals in a child’s body.

The powerful bond between mother and child begins in the womb. Then, at birth, eye contact between child and mother creates a bond that causes their brains to become responsive to each other. Thereafter, when a mother hugs, touches, or even speaks to a child, corresponding neurons are fired in both their brains.
